My name is Roger Scarberry, and I am making this statement with my wife Linda. On the night of November 15, 1966, Linda and I and our friends Steve and Mary Mallette drove out to the old West Virginia Ordnance Works area north of Point Pleasant — everybody called it the TNT area. It was around 11:30 PM. We were driving near one of the old generator buildings when our headlights caught something standing in the road. It was large — I'd say six or seven feet tall — dark gray or dark brown in color, shaped vaguely like a man but with enormous wings folded against its back. What stopped me cold were the eyes. They were large, round, and bright red — glowing red, like bicycle reflectors, but from within. It had no visible neck. The head sat directly on the shoulders. I hit the gas and we drove toward Route 62 as fast as I could go, maybe 100 miles per hour. The thing unfolded its wings and kept pace with the car without appearing to flap them. It kept up with us all the way to the city limits, then veered off and disappeared. We went straight to the Sheriff's office. We were all genuinely terrified — there was no way to fake that reaction. Over the following weeks dozens of other Point Pleasant residents reported seeing the same creature. The Silver Bridge collapsed on December 15, 1967. I do not know what connection there may be, if any. But I know what I saw.
