I am Kathleen May of Flatwoods, West Virginia, and I am submitting this account along with my sons Edward and Freddie and their friends Neil Nunley and Tommy Hyer. On the evening of September 12, 1952, the boys saw a bright object cross the sky and appear to land on the hill behind the Bailey Fisher farm. They came to get me, and along with our National Guard member Eugene Lemon we went up the hill to investigate. It was dark and misty. Eugene had a flashlight. The dog ran ahead of us and came back immediately, very frightened, and would not go further. When we reached the crest of the hill we could see a large pulsating reddish sphere about the size of a house sitting in the field. Then Eugene swung the flashlight to the left and there was something standing by a large oak tree. I cannot fully describe my terror. It was enormous — I estimate ten feet tall — with a dark body and a bright red face, or what appeared to be a face. The head was shaped like an ace of spades, or a hood. The eyes were large and circular and they reflected the light bright orange-red. It had no visible legs but seemed to float slightly. It made a hissing sound and moved toward us, and we ran. Several of us became sick in the days that followed — nausea, throat swelling, irritation in the eyes. When investigators came to the site the next day they found an oil-like residue in a ring pattern and broken branches in the area where the sphere had been.
